From Ruhpolding on top of the Großglockner

At 3,798 m the ‘Grossglockner’ is not only the highest mountain in Austria, but he is also one of the highest peaks of the eastern Alps. In front of the pyramid-shaped Grossglockner is the slightly lower ‘Kleinglockner’ (3,770 m), in between is the so-called ‘Glocknerscharte’.

The first ascent was in 1800. Victory and defeat also accompanied by other expeditions. The ‘Pallavicinirinne’ was named after Markgraf Alfred Pallavicini, who died in 1886 at the ‘Glockner’.
Since 1918, the ‘Grossglockner’ together with ‘Pasterze’ are owned by
the Austrian Alpine Club.

Treat yourself to the experience of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road

With the construction of the ‘Grossglockner High Alpine Road’, the majestic
peak acquired a new dimension. As a popular destination for many people it is
the embodiment of an impressive natural experience.
On 48 kilometers of high alpine road with 36 bends, and an increase in altitude
to 2,504 meters you will find a particular kind of natural and driving experience!

You are at the ‘Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Height’: size and power can be sensed here,
you fall for the 'eternal ice' and the elemental force of nature charms - if you will
not be fared before already in Ruhpolding.
